This page explains what Spadesinator stores about you, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.
The short version: to give you an account and somewhere to play, we keep your name and email address, and we record basic usage data such as which pages you open and what kind of device you are using. We use that to run the game and to decide what to improve. The sections below give the detail, including how long each kind of data is kept, the cases where it may be shared with services we rely on, and how to get a copy of yours or have it deleted. Using Spadesinator means accepting what is described here.
Questions, or want your data removed? Email spadesinator@gmail.com.

We may retain Personal Data beyond the periods stated above for different reasons:
You may request information about how long We will retain Your Personal Data by contacting Us.
When retention periods expire, We securely delete or anonymize Personal Data according to the following procedures:

It means that this information may be transferred to — and maintained on — computers located outside of Your state, province, country or other governmental jurisdiction where the data protection laws may differ from those from Your jurisdiction.

Under certain circumstances, the Company may be required to disclose Your Personal Data if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g. a court or a government agency).
The Company may disclose Your Personal Data in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to:
The security of Your Personal Data is important to Us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While We strive to use commercially reasonable means to protect Your Personal Data, We cannot guarantee its absolute security.
If You buy an optional paid subscription, the payment is handled by Stripe, Our payment processor. Depending on Your purchase, Stripe may act as the merchant of record, in which case Stripe also handles sales tax or VAT. Stripe collects Your payment card details, billing address, and contact information directly; We never see or store Your full card number. Stripe's processing of Your data is described in its own privacy policy at https://stripe.com/privacy.
On Our side, We store what We need to run Your subscription: a Stripe customer identifier, a Stripe subscription identifier, Your subscription tier and status, Your renewal date, and Your feature credit balances. This information is kept while Your account exists, plus any period required for financial record-keeping, and is deleted with Your profile subject to those legal obligations.
Certain optional features of the Service let You supply Your own API key from a third-party artificial intelligence provider (for example, Anthropic or OpenAI) so that AI opponents or assistants can be powered by that provider on Your behalf. Providing such a key is entirely voluntary and is not required to use the Service.
If You choose to provide Your own API key, You do so entirely at Your own risk. Any usage of that key through the Service is billed directly to Your own account with the applicable third-party provider, and You are solely responsible for all charges, costs, fees, and overage amounts You may incur. Spadesinator does not control, set, or monitor the rates charged by third-party AI providers and has no ability to refund or reverse any amounts they bill You.
Spadesinator accepts no responsibility or liability whatsoever for any charges, costs, or fees You incur as a result of using Your own API key, including charges arising from Your own usage, the length or number of games You play, unexpected provider pricing, or unauthorized use of a key You have entered. Your use of any third-party AI provider is also governed by that provider's own terms of service and pricing, which You are responsible for reviewing.
Any API key You provide is transmitted to the game server solely to operate the AI features for the specific game or room in which You enter it, is used only for that game, and is never saved to Your profile or shared with other players.
Paid and trial features let You create custom card backs and table emblems from text prompts. When You use them:
AI players in the Service keep a lightweight, persistent impression of how You interact with them. When an AI player replies to Your table chat, the Service may store a single tone score (a number from 0 to 10), an exchange count, and a timestamp for that AI player's name on Your player profile. This score only shapes the style of that AI player's future chat replies to You. It is never shown to other players, is not used for any other purpose, and is deleted along with Your profile. The content of Your messages is not stored on Your profile.
For subscribers, AI players also keep short written memories of the games You have played together, such as memorable rounds and their overall sense of Your playing style, along with a win and loss record. These memories are built only from game events like bids, scores, and results; they are never built from the content of Your chat messages. An AI player may refer to these memories in its table chat, which other players at Your table can see. Memories are stored on Your profile and deleted along with it.
In-game chat messages are retained with the game record (which expires automatically within 7 days) and in Your game history, in part so AI players can see the conversation when replying.
Table chat is screened before it is delivered, so that players are not insulted and so that partners cannot signal their cards. A word filter runs first inside the Service. A message that passes the filter is then sent to an AI model operated by Amazon Web Services, which returns only two yes or no answers: whether the message appears to insult another player, and whether it appears to reveal a hand or direct a partner's play. The model receives the text of the message by itself. It is not given Your name, Your account, or anything else about You, and its answer is discarded as soon as those two answers are read.
This screening runs on every table chat message, including at tables with no AI players, and it is separate from the AI player features described above. Amazon does not retain the messages sent for screening and does not share them with the company that created the model. Screening creates no new record of Your messages. Chat is kept only as described above, with the game record and Your game history. If a message is blocked it is not delivered to the table, and You are told that it was blocked.
Our Service does not address anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 16. If You are a parent or guardian and You are aware that Your child has provided Us with Personal Data, please contact Us. If We become aware that We have collected Personal Data from anyone under the age of 16 without verification of parental consent, We take steps to remove that information from Our servers.
If We need to rely on consent as a legal basis for processing Your information and Your country requires consent from a parent, We may require Your parent's consent before We collect and use that information.
Our Service may contain links to other websites that are not operated by Us. If You click on a third party link, You will be directed to that third party's site. We strongly advise You to review the Privacy Policy of every site You visit.
We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third party sites or services.
We may update Our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify You of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
We will let You know via email and/or a prominent notice on Our Service, prior to the change becoming effective and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this Privacy Policy.
You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
