The Play

Before the first cardNorth-South sit on 8 bags. A bag is a trick taken over the bid, and the 10th one costs 100 points. They bid 6, so once they have 6 tricks, every extra trick pushes them toward the penalty. Watch how South plays after the bid is made.

  1. 1North leads A♣ · East 6♣ · South 5♣ · West 2♣North wins

  2. 2North leads A♥ · East 4♥ · South 4♣ · West 3♥North wins

  3. 3North leads 2♥ · East 8♥ · South 2♠ · West 7♥South wins

After card 11South is out of hearts and trumps East's 8♥ with the 2♠. North-South still need tricks for their bid, so this one is wanted.

  4. 4South leads A♦ · West 5♦ · North 2♦ · East 3♦South wins

  5. 5South leads K♦ · West 9♦ · North 4♦ · East Q♦South wins

After card 20South cashes the A♦ and K♦. That's five tricks toward the six.

  6. 6South leads 10♦ · West 3♠ · North J♦ · East 7♣West wins

  7. 7West leads 10♣ · North 7♠ · East 8♣ · South 3♣North wins

After card 28North trumps West's 10♣, and that's North-South's sixth trick. The bid is made. Every trick they take from here is a bag, and two more bags cost them 100.

  8. 8North leads 5♥ · East K♥ · South Q♣ · West J♥East wins

After card 31South is out of hearts and could trump this one, but a trick won now is a bag. It throws the Q♣ instead. That was South's last club, so no club lead can hand it a trick later.

  9. 9East leads 9♣ · South 8♦ · West 6♠ · North Q♥West wins

After card 34Out of clubs now, South could trump again. It throws the 8♦ and lets the trick go.

  10. 10West leads 10♥ · North 9♥ · East J♣ · South 7♦West wins

After card 40Another heart South could trump, and another diamond thrown.

  11. 11West leads J♠ · North 9♠ · East 4♠ · South 5♠West wins

After card 44West leads the J♠. South holds the Q♠ and 5♠ and plays the 5♠, which can't win this trick.

  12. 12West leads 10♠ · North 8♠ · East K♠ · South Q♠East wins

After card 48East's K♠ is on the table, so the Q♠ can go without winning. South hasn't taken a trick since the bid was made.

  13. 13East leads K♣ · South 6♦ · West A♠ · North 6♥West wins

After card 52North-South finish with exactly 6, so no new bags. East-West bid 4 and took 7, and the 3 extra tricks are their bags.
